The Saga of Baby Divine
Published in Hardcover by Crown Pub (July, 1986)
Authors: Bette Midler and Todd Schorr
Average review score:

For anyone who's ever needed a little self-esteem boost.
The Saga of Baby Divine follows a new born child through her first night. Birth, first look at the world, first steps (well, okay, she found out at once she could not walk a step, but-Whoopee!-could she ever dance), first friend, first fear, and every first that could be fit into one fifty-page evening. Enhancing the perfectly captured drama of all those firsts is the beauty of the writing and illustration. A pentameter that rivals Seuss in creativity, timing, and rhyming, and pages full of animated color that entrances my little ones. Please, request this be re-published!

A Divine Book!
This book is divine, it's simply sublime, As Baby Divine's tale's related in rhyme. Bette Midler inspires with her words full of charm As she tells us how Baby Divine escapes harm. How so much talent could be in one girl, To fathom it makes my poor brain start to whirl. She not only acts, sings, and dances, she writes! She's the brightest of stars in a world full of nights.

A book for the entire family---True Midler style!!!
This book is a wonderful tale of the adventures of Baby Divine. It is a fairy tale that Bette fans will Love. Baby Divine has the sassy spirit, and wonderful charm that only The Divine Miss M could give us. The pictures in this book are outstanding. The colors come right out of the page. This is a book that the whole family will enjoy. It is truly Divine!!!

Secret Mystic Rites - The Art of Todd Schorr
Published in Paperback by Last Gasp of San Francisco (June, 2003)
Authors: Todd Schorr and Robert Williams
Average review score:

Style and Skill
Great skill and style is shown in Todd Shorrs work. Fans of this type of comic book turned serious art will be amazed and pleased at this collection. The book also shows how his style progressed into a look that is very distinct.

Highly Recommended
If you enjoy Todd's work or lowbrow art in general, this book will be well received. Its 96 pages of full color plates and indepth text are excellently paired; even the layout throughout the entire book added to the experience of the artwork, which is chronologically reviewed in each divided area of style and influence. It gives a first-hand perspective of how much of his artwork came to be, why it is, and what it can become.

Great Book
This art is great. His work is on the Big Bad Voodoo Daddy cover.

Shark Bite (Against the Odds)
Published in Paperback by Aladdin Library (October, 1998)
Author: Todd Strasser
Average review score:

The 5 Star Shark Bite
The title of my book is Shark Bite and the author is Todd Strasser. It did not win any awards but I would give it a 5 star rating. In the book a few people go on a long sailing trip, a big storm comes, and a big wave puts a hole in the boat. As the boat is slowly sinking they see the biggest shark of thier life. This book is good for anyone who likes sharks and exciting books. I thought this was a great book. Thank you for your time and I hope you like it too.

A cool survival story.
When Ian and his sister, Talia, are invited to sail from Texas to Mexico with Talia's boyfriend, Stewart, and his dad, Ian doesn't want to go, but Talia does, so he agrees. Ian and Stewart don't get along, but Ian enjoys the trip anyway. Then a storm strikes, injuring Stewart's dad and damaging the boat. Now the boat is slowly sinking, and to make matters worse, the sharks are circling. Can Ian, Talia, and Stewart survive

A Great Book!
I rate this book 5 stars because I think that Todd Stresser did a very good job writing it. Ian and his frinds are traped on a bout, and shark are circleing around it. You will have to read it to find out what happens!

The Star Spangled Banner (Patriotic Songs)
Published in School & Library Binding by Picture Window Books (September, 2003)
Authors: Francis Scott Key, Todd Ouren, Marsha Qualey, and Ann Owen
Average review score:

A beautiful book!
I really love this book ~ it is perfectly illustrated for children.

Nicely detailed illustrations introduce our National Anthem
Peter Spier is one of my favorite illustrators of children's books. Here, his illustrations for three verses of Francis Scott Key's poem and song, "The Star-Spangled Banner," provide an excellent introduction for children to the meaning behind his famous lyrics.

I usually read this aloud to primary classes around a patriotic holidays. This year, because of our late school year, I read it for Flag Day. Since the words and historical setting are unfamiliar to most younger students, I have begun introducing this book with "The Story of 'The Star Spangled Banner,'" which can be found in "The Children's Book of America," edited by William J. Bennett. These two volumes make fine companions.

Even with this introduction, Key's text needs explaining, however with Spier's finely detailed illustrations, this task is much easier. Children love to examine the intricacies and they usually come up with some excellent comments and questions. On the page featuring Arlington National Cemetery, they ask about who died in battle, why some of the grave markers are stars instead of crosses, and why the flag is flying at half-mast.

Our copy of "The Star-Spangled Banner" is nearly worn out from heavy use. That should say something about the popularity of this excellent patriotic book.

A book to inspire young patriots,
our four-year-old claims this is his FAVORITE book. Perhaps it is because his mother chokes up and tears drop to her cheeks as she reads this book. We have found that this is an excellent read-aloud and has stretched our four-year-old's language skills in many ways. As if The Star Spangled Banner weren't moving enough, the arrangement of pictures flows along with the words of the song to create an image of heroics and bravery. In addition, little incidentals like soldiers feeding their horses and wet clothes hanging to dry aboard ship cause us to remember that these were real people fighting. Peter Spier mixes history with the present as he causes us to remember what these men were fighting for. We see schools and businesses, Arlington Cemetery and the Statue of Liberty, cities and rural farms, synagogues and churches, Amish buggies and a Friends Meeting House all as evidence of our cultural diversity. We also see that the fight continues as we witness a renovation project and scientists working in a lab. The first, second and fourth verses are illustrated. The pictures help the capable parent define words such as "conceals" and "discloses." In addition, the artwork contains so much information and story that conversation just develops as the book is read. There is an oustanding collection of Flags of America and a thorough history of the War of 1812. The words to all four verses of the Star Spangled Banner and the music by J Stafford Smith follow. Peter Spier is becoming our hero as the author of our favorite children's books.

Superguides: Ice Skating

Superguides: Ice Skating
I loved this book! I think that every skater should read this book! I fell in love with skating though this book. Of course, I liked skating before I read this book, but this book showed me that skating was for me!

Techniques and Advanced Skills
Skating on Ice began hundreds of years ago as a way to get from one place to another. The focus of ice skating today is definately more for entertainment, however natural ice rinks form in countries with exceptionally cold winter weather and you can skate outdoors for exercise.

In Toronto and Canada, large areas are flooded during the winter months to make rinks and skating is one of the most popular sports in Canada now. Some of the first World Championships were held in outdoor rinks and for me, ice skating outdoors is ideal. I dream of skating down a frozen lake and did skate as a child on a frozen lake once.

My holiday dreams for the winter are now focusing on a place with an outdoor rink. I say all this to say: Introducing a child to ice skating can give them much pleasure later in life. My parents would drop my brother and I off at the ice rink and we never wanted to leave. My brother taught me to skate backwards which I was very proud of!

This is a sport the whole family can enjoy if parents can find the time to take their children for this fun activity. In this wonderful introduction to skating, children will learn what they will need to be comfortable and warm. I didn't realize an ice-dance blade was different from a free-skating blade. Now, that is information I could have used as a child.

A Warming up section shows children how to stretch to prevent injuries. If you remember your first steps onto the ice, the next section will be very valuable. What happens if your child falls in the middle of the ice rink? If no one is nearby...the picture they show is fine, but if skaters are whizzing by...I would tell children to keep their fingers folded in as they try to get back up. Sometimes you can get knocked back over just as you are getting up, has happened. ;>

This section shows children how to step out onto the ice, how to fall safely, do dips and how to scull. Skating forwards is the basics, but they go into Crossovers, the snowplow, stopping by using a T-stop and a hockey stop. Skating backwards and not falling is exhilirating!

The step-by-step intructions are all illustrated by real skaters. How to place your weight and on what leg is very important for balance. Did you know that edges are the foundation of ice skating? This is what allows skaters to skate curves and circles. Once the forward and backward skating has been mastered, you can move on to turns and then to jumping on ice. I would recommend ice skating classes for sure, however this book will allow the skater to read all about what they are learning in class. It seems to me it would be difficult to learn to do jumps from a book and I don't recommend it.

They do say: "Seek professional coaching before you attempt any of the moves." A glossary gives insight into the language of ice skating. You can look up a sit spin or a waltz hold or even a bunny hop. All I have to say is...why am I here writing a review when I could be skating. ;> I have my eye on a 3-way convertible skate by Hypno (Fila Manufacturer) that has ice blades, inline skates and a boot that detaches. It looks perfect for outdoor sports when you want to put on your shoes and then go outside. You just snap on the wheels or ice blades. If anyone has them, write me and tell me if they are comfortable.

Enjoy this book, it is so informative and will really get you or your children out on the ice! There is nothing cuter than "mini-skaters" with their parents out on the ice. My dad used to skate with us as children. I do miss all those fun times, but that must be why we have children so we can relive our own childhood through the eyes of a child. This is an exciting book on a sport so many love.

I highly recommend this book to any child or adult who wants to find out the basics and all the extras of skating.

Ice Skating made easy and understandable
Learning to skate is made easy by this guidebook. Everything in ice skating has to do with precise control over edges and clear control over your body. Many times you might feel out of control when you begin to skate. Not only does this guide help you feel more secure as a skater, you benefit from clear illustrations of skating moves. I've seen and purchased other guidebooks, but this one is clearly the best.

Tahoe Ice Grave: An Owen McKenna Mystery Thriller
Published in Paperback by Thriller Press (August, 2002)
Author: Todd Borg
Average review score:

A big thumbs up
Todd Borg is a Tahoe resident and small businessman. He also teaches part time at Lake Tahoe Community College. TAHOE ICE GRAVE is his third Owen McKenna and Spot mystery. Mr. Borg's first two novels in the series, TAHOE DEATHFALL and TAHOE BLOWUP, won several awards, including "Top 5 winner of Bay Area Independent Publishers Association" and "Librarian's Choice, Best Fiction 2001" by the Cincinnati Public Library.

Thos Kahale's body is found naked near Rubicon Point in Lake Tahoe, his clothes neatly folded onshore and a bullet through his head. Thos's mother, Janeen Kahale hires Owen McKenna to look into the death. Thos was an upstanding young man with a successful business and a discreet nature, and there is no apparent reason for his death. Owen has to dig deep to find the reasons, and in the meantime the Kahale family seems to be dying at an alarming rate. All Owen has to go on is a suicide note left by Thos and his family history:

"'Janeen, Thos's note says he was responsible for the deaths of three people. Jasper's father and brother have died in the last few weeks. Could they be two of he people Thos referred to?' 'Of course not. Jasper's father died of lung cancer. His brother in a car accident. Obviously, Thos could not have had anything to do with either death.'"

One of the real strengths of the Owen McKenna series is the characterization. Mr. Borg has a knack for telling a "tall tale" with larger-than-life characters. Owen himself is 6'6", and his dog spot is a Great Dane who is perfectly tuned to Owen's commands. McKenna's girlfriend Street completes the triad; an entomologist (science of insects) who deals with the grisly forensic side of murder. Together the threesome make for a winning combination of grit, intelligence, strength, and tenderness that is captivating to the reader. But Mr. Borg's plots are also super-twisters that take the reader back and forth, into and out of the mountain scenery at a dizzying rate. TAHOE ICE GRAVE is as compelling as any of Todd Borg's tales to date. With each book his writing advances to a new level, much to the delight of his growing audience. A big thumbs up.

Don't Miss this page turner!!!
Todd Borg knows how to win fans...
Taho Ice Grave is a well executed story that
provides fast moving, compelling suspense.
Owen and Spot pack the realism that all mystery
readers enjoy.
Add Todd Borg's name to your list of favorite
authors!!!

"Tahoe Ice Grave"
Murder in the deep icy waters of Lake Tahoe; the search for a priceless manuscript and the ruthless killer who would do anything to get his hands on it; a frantic chase up frigid mountain cliffs to a hidden ice cave-Owen McKenna and his faithful Great Dane "Spot" are at it again.
"Tahoe Ice Grave," Todd Borg's third thriler in the Owen McKenna myatery series, is every bit as fast paced and spell binding as his first two, "Tahoe Deathfall" and "Tahoe Blowup." Borg's attention to detail and unique talent for character portrayal go a long way to make "Ice Grave's" people and places larger than life. A fast paced read that will keep you turning the pages 'till the wee hours of the morning.

Todd Oldham: Without Boundaries

Authors: Todd Oldham, John K. Waters, and Kevyn Aucoin
Average review score:

what an eccentric man
I have been seeing the todd oldham commerical for target and started buying some of his stuff, so, I decided to order this book. Todd sounds like he is very interesting and eccentric. After all the moving around that he has done, he seems worldly. I would like to see more of his commercial. Is there anything out on the market with his photograph?

Todd is a very creative and interesting person
this book was very intersting. i learned a lot about my favorite fashion designer. it was set up as an interview between Todd and Jen Bilik, so you really get to see his personality and his outlook on life- i also enjoyed Kevin Aucoin's contribution to the book(it was funny)

Incredible
This incredible story of the outstanding designer Todd Oldham is just remarkable....even though he's a GREAT designer...he also has a story behind...this is a must get for ALL fashion lovers! Love you Todd!

Zoo Do's and Don'ts
Published in Hardcover by Little Brown & Co (Juv Trd) (April, 2000)
Author: Todd Parr
Average review score:

Fun story, easy to read, vivid colors
I started reading this to my daughter when she was six months old. The book is smaller than the traditional big picture books, and is very easy and quick to read. The books pages go as follows:
On one page it says: DO feed an elephant peanuts
On the opposite page it says: DON'T feed him peanut butter

The colors are very vivid and the drawing simple. This is a nice book to read to your child starting from day one! We are on our third copy of it and my daughter just turned three.
Great for a boy or a girl.

Our Son's Favorite Book!
Among the crowd of classics, such as "Goodnight Moon," and newer books by Boynton and others, this book captivates the attention of our 14-month old son, and we are grateful to the author. After two months of daily reading, we put it away. It was recently rediscovered, and he constantly reaches for it in the pile of books we make available to him. Is it the colors? The characters? Or the sheer amusement of it all? Maybe it's laughing along with his father or mother as we read it together. Highly recommended from a happy father. I'm buying more from Todd Parr!

Great
It is just as good ad the author's other book. With cute colourful illustration, it grasp my son's eye right away.

One of 100 or so
Dear Folks,
I am one of the poets in the book. I was one of the original 100 for the online version. I have been there from the beginning with Todd. I have toured with Todd as part of the Short Fuse tour in UK. Todd is relentless and spirited. He makes no bones about his life, poetry and politics. He chose poets that are "proLIFE" that is desire peace over the bounty of war but will stand up to protect what is right. This is different than simply being against war. It is about being for PEACE and creating that where one goes with words, gestures and one's own example. It is an important differentiation... witness Natalie Handal's poem EVEN one of the best poems I have ever read. Let us move to Even. .. this is a book that can change the world for the better. If a review can influence you to make a purchase than get this book!

Preemptive Pieces for Peace
Talk about Timely! 100 Poets Against the War is a collective of poets writing about peace from around the world. The Absolute Quickest Way to Help Your Child Change
Published in Paperback by Destiny Image (June, 1997)
Authors: Fred H. Lybrand and Todd Ross
Average review score:

So easy, so common sense, and it works!
Positive reinforcement has always worked, but this book shows you specifics of how to use that tool. It teaches the parent a fair yet extremely effective way to train your child to behave. The concept is simple and easy and it works so quickly because of those things. A common sense tool for those of us who feel they've lost theirs! A+++!

Best parenting book I have ever read and used!
Fred Lybrand hits the nail on the head with his common sense approach to parenting. I read the book in one (long) sitting and have benifited greatly from the tips he offers. The complete approach to parenting is fresh and helpful. My own parenting skills are better now and my relationship with my kids is stronger. My husband even read the book and raves
